Freelance Web Designer in the UK
I build websites and online shops for small businesses and entrepreneurs in the UK
User experience and solid design principles are essential – first impressions count. The website I build for you will tell your story and convert website traffic into paying customers.
This is my speciality. I build creative and bespoke online shops. From sales funnels to advanced, fully functioning, WooCommerce online stores. If you’ve outgrown Shopify… get in touch!
For clients who already have a website but need someone with technical know-how to keep things working. I will be your technical geek! Problem-solving is one of my best skills!
What is a freelance web designer?
The benefits and differences between a freelancer and an agency
As a freelance web designer, I’m self-employed and independent. I’m not part of a big agency which has sales targets and a high turnover of staff.
Once you hire me to do your website – you’ll have my phone number and email address – you’ll be in touch with me directly. There won’t be different departments to go through.
As I’m independent I don’t have expensive overheads – I work from home and my costs are minimal – so I can pass this saving on to you.
So, if you are someone who appreciates being able to talk frankly to your actual web designer without having to deal with a customer service rep or fend off sales calls… you probably want an independent web designer.
I’m Simon. I’m a family man, in my mid-30s, and I live near York in the UK.
I have a first-class degree in Business Computing and 10 years of real-world experience working in the commercial world (from small start-ups to multinational pharmaceuticals).
When I had children becoming a freelance web designer meant I could re-set my work-life balance.
My background in computing, and real-world commercial experience combined with my technical geekiness has served me and my clients well.
I love to solve problems – from technical back-end issues to low conversion rates – my passion is to make your website an asset… not a burden!
What my clients say
“From start to finish Simon at Focused All Day has been exceptional… Focused All Day not only met the challenge but exceeded it. Simon has the most calming manner and really listens to what the client wants. I can highly recommend this company.”
“I needed an eCommerce website after I had outgrown my Wix online shop. I found Simon, and he did everything I needed. He was professional but easy to chat to. He’s always been very fast at responding to and fixing any issues with my WordPress WooCommerce website, and his customer service is excellent.”
“Simon has been brilliant, I can’t fault his approach and dedication to building 2 separate websites for me. He has been absolutely fantastic. Simon took the time to research both my Counselling back ground and holiday lets. He was there through every step of the way and was incredibly quick to put everything in place. If I could put 10 stars I would. Well done Simon!”
Due to confidentiality, I am unable to share my full freelance web designer portfolio, but I do have a few I can share:
How much does a freelance web designer charge?
I know what it’s like, you’re scouring the web to get an idea of how much you need to budget for your project, but no one is telling you a price!
That is often because web designers want to scope out how much you are willing to spend before they commit to a price, or they want to get you on the phone so they can convince you to spend even more on your digital solution.
I’m not like that. I’m a Yorkshireman! I know you don’t want to throw money away – so all my prices are listed here.
If you don’t know which option will suit you, that’s fine, I’m happy to chat about it with you – I’ll be honest and I won’t try to sell you something you don’t need!
Here are a few of my prices to give you an idea. Bespoke solutions will differ, so please get in touch for an accurate quote.
WordPress websites (not eCommerce)
- A simple template-based 5-page WordPress website: £525
- A more advanced website (up to 10 pages) with blogging capabilities and search engine optimised: £1000
- A bespoke, complex, dynamic website: from £2500
Ecommerce sites – starting at £3000 and ranging to £5000
Ad-hoc technical work – £100 per hour.
Maintenance plans – from £79 per month (this includes hosting and reduces the ad hoc hourly price to £50 per hour)
Need a Professional Website?
If you’re looking for a professional, reliable and affordable freelance web designer, look no further than me. I am able to offer a complete package including everything from initial consultation through to hosting and ongoing maintenance.
I specialise in WordPress and Woocommerce but please don’t be put off by the terminology – the end result will be a fit-for-purpose website. All you need to do is tell me what you want to achieve and I’ll get you there.
What happens next?
It starts with a chat about you, your type of business and what you want to achieve.
Often clients don’t know what is possible, so asking what they want to achieve gives me a much better understanding than asking what they want me to create.
There are so many different solutions which is why it’s beneficial to hire a freelance web designer who has experience of how they all work. This might sound expensive, but I’m a Yorkshire man, and I understand how important a budget is for a business to succeed.
After our initial chat, I’ll go away and research the costs and options so I can come back to you with a full proposal. This will include pricing details and a rough time schedule as well as an estimated start date.
There is no commitment required for this stage, if you decide not to go ahead, that’s fine, you won’t be pressured into anything – I’m not a salesperson, I’m a freelance web designer!
If you’d like to gather a bit more info before getting in touch, feel free to have a look at my pricing and some examples of websites I have built in the past (I can’t publish a full portfolio due to client confidentiality!).
The first step is for you to get in touch with an outline of your project requirements. This doesn’t need to be anything complex – it could be a goal or concern or problem you have with your current site.
I’ll get back to you, by phone, zoom, email, or in-person (depending upon your preference) to let you know how I can help you with your project, what the price will be, how long it will take, and when I can get started.
If you are happy to accept my proposal, I’ll send you an onboarding questionnaire and take the payment.
From your questionnaire, I will have all the information I need to get started. At each stage of the website build, you will be consulted and tweaks can be made until the stage is signed off by you.
Finally, after I have completed thorough testing and the website is ready, I will schedule a session with you where we go through the entire website making any changes necessary, so it is ready to go live.
How Long will my website take? For simple websites, this can all be done within one week. For more complex eCommerce websites requiring me to wear my front-end developer hat, this could take up to a month.
