Hi, I’m Simon Womersley
Freelance Web Designer
I create beautiful websites for small businesses helping them gain more customers online.
User experience and solid design principles are essential – first impressions count. The website I built for you will tell your story and convert website traffic into paying customers.
Creative and bespoke online shops. From sales funnels to advanced, full functioning, WooCommerce online stores – sell products online. Get a high-quality online store.
My website maintenance services keep your website up to date and my eCommerce website maintenance packages include extra plugins, hours and security.
Need a Professional Website?
The biggest problem most small businesses face when starting up is getting a website built that looks professional enough to represent them.
If you’re looking for a professional, reliable and affordable freelance web designer, look no further than me. I am able to offer a complete package including everything from initial consultation through to hosting and ongoing maintenance.
I specialise in WordPress and Woocommerce but please don’t be put off by the terminology – the end result will be a fit for purpose website. All you need to do is tell me what you want to achieve and I’ll get you there.
What is a freelance web designer?
I’m self-employed, independent.
I still offer the same high-quality service as a design agency. Yet hiring a freelance web designer means I’m your direct contact, from being the designer on board to carrying out development for clients.
So do you need a freelance web designer?
Well if you have ever said:
- “I need more customers.”
- “No one can find my website on Google.”
- “I’ve outgrown my website.”
- “I need more than a Facebook page.”
If the above sounds like you, then you’re ready for a serious, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) friendly website to win you the leads you deserve.
I’m Simon. I’m a family man, in my mid-30s, I live near York in the UK.
I have a first-class degree in Business Computing and 10 years of real-world experience working in the commercial world (from small start-ups to multinational pharmaceuticals).
When I had children becoming a freelance web designer meant I could re-set my work-life balance.
My background in computing, real-world commercial experience combined with my technical geekiness has served me and my clients well.
Unlike a large digital agency I’m able to keep my client base small so I can get to know them and understand exactly what they need. Increasing your return on investment.
How much does a freelance web designer charge?
I know what it’s like, you’re scouring the web to get an idea of how much you need to budget for your project, but no one is telling you a price!
That is often because web designers want to scope out how much you are willing to spend before they commit to a price, or they want to get you on the phone so they can convince you to spend even more on your digital solution.
I’m not like that. I’m a Yorkshireman! I know you don’t want to throw money away – so all my prices are listed here.
If you don’t know which option will suit you, that’s fine, I’m happy to chat about it with you – I’ll be honest and I won’t try to sell you something you don’t need!
My affordable web design services build websites from £395 for a simple one-page website, to £2500 for an advanced, bespoke design advanced solution – see all my freelance web designer prices here.

“I needed an eCommerce website after I had outgrown my Wix online shop. I found Simon, and he did everything I needed. He was professional but easy to chat to. He’s always been very fast at responding to and fixing any issues with my WordPress WooCommerce website, and his customer service is excellent.”
York Wedding Photographer
“A genuinely nice guy who has your back – you won’t be passed between team members who only know you by information such as the name of your project!”
What happens next?
It starts with a chat about you, your type of business and what you want to achieve.
Often clients don’t know what is possible, so asking what they want to achieve gives me a much better understanding than asking what they want me to create.
There are so many different solutions which is why it’s beneficial to hire a freelance web designer who has experience of how they all work. This might sound expensive, but I’m a Yorkshire man, and I understand how important a budget is for a business to succeed.
After our initial chat, I’ll go away and research the costs and options so I can come back to you with a full proposal. This will include pricing details and a rough time schedule as well as an estimated start date.
There is no commitment required for this stage, if you decide not to go ahead, that’s fine, you won’t be pressured into anything – I’m not a salesperson, I’m a freelance web designer!
If you’d like to gather a bit more info before getting in touch, feel free to have a look at my pricing and some examples of websites I have built in the past (I can’t publish a full portfolio due to client confidentiality!).
The first step is for you to get in touch with an outline of your project requirements. This doesn’t need to be anything complex – it could be a goal or concern or problem you have with your current site.
I’ll get back to you, by phone, zoom, email, or in-person (depending upon your preference) to let you know how I can help you with your project, what the price will be, how long it will take, and when I can get started.
If you are happy to accept my proposal, I’ll send you an onboarding questionnaire and take the payment.
From your questionnaire, I will have all the information I need to get started. At each stage of the website build, you will be consulted and tweaks can be made until the stage is signed off by you.
Finally, after I have completed thorough testing and the website is ready, I will schedule a session with you where we go through the entire website making any changes necessary, so it is ready to go live.
How Long will my website take? For simple websites, this can all be done within one week. For more complex eCommerce websites requiring me to wear my front-end developer hat, this could take up to a month.
Due to confidentiality I am unable to share my full freelance web designer portfolio, but I do have a few I can share:
